Handling temperature control in multiple properties

My partner plus I have a couple of properties that the two of us transport between.

We have a home up north where the two of us stay from May until November, plus a residence down south for the frosty weeks! Our goal is pretty much to avoid the most brutal weather in each location. Keeping up with the demands of two properties is periodically exhausting. There is constant maintenance at both locations. We need to own 2 lawn mowers, 2 vacuum cleaners, 2 washing machines plus 2 of everything pretty much. We also worry about whichever property is left vacant. The frosty weather up north is brutal. We experience temperatures down to negative temperatures with a massive accumulation of snow. The conditions cause all sorts of drawbacks, including water pipes easily freezing plus bursting. We don’t wish to pay to heat an empty property to a comfortable temperature, so the two of us turn the thermostat as low as we can. We then stress over the opportunity of an oil furnace malfunction. When the two of us get home in the Springtime, the two of us never actually know what kind of complications the two of us might find. This past year, I noticed that quite a few of the seams of the walls had popped, but I guess this is due to major swings in temperature plus the framework of the property expanding plus contracting. We have similar setbacks down south, except the main concern is the heat plus humidity. We are reluctant to run the cooling equipment when the loft is unoccupied, however the condensation plus moisture lead to mold plus mildew growth! Just recently, I decided to invest in a smart thermostat for both properties. The ability to access the thermostat plus acquire alerts through my smartphone is invaluable.
