Everyone was complaining about the lack of AC and I didn't want to hear it

Last week was a very busy week at the restaurant.

I’m not sure why sales were up, but the restaurant was filled morning, noon, and night.

We ran out of fish, chicken, and clam strips. The waitresses made almost $100 in tips every single night and even more on Friday and Saturday. Sunday afternoon, the AC in the kitchen stopped working shortly after our lunch rush. I checked a few things, but I was unable to resolve the problem. When the nighttime executive chef came to work, he started complaining about the indoor temperatures. I already knew we were having problems and his complaints didn’t help. Several customers started to fill the building and then my servers arrived to start their shift. They started complaining about the indoor temperatures as well. Everyone was complaining about the AC and I didn’t want to hear any of the complaints. I told the staff that they could go home if they were unhappy. One of the servers left and I told her not to bother coming back to work. I’ve done my best to take care of all of the employees and this week has been extremely busy. The AC was a small problem and certainly not an issue that should have had people begging to go home. I was really disappointed by the staff that night and it made me realize that a stronger crew might be better for business and morale. With business picking up, it might be time to evaluate the staff in the back and the front of the house.
