I have a job and a consistent sleep schedule and I usually sleep through the night. But that’s in part because of my good air conditioning system. I love to have the temperature at least 70° at night to sleep. If I go any higher than 70°, it’s really hard for me to sleep through the night without any interruptions. The other night my air conditioner quit working while I was asleep. I remember waking up about 2 hours before my alarm was supposed to go off drenched in sweat. I immediately called the HVAC company as soon as they opened that morning. Thankfully, they were able to fix my air conditioner the next day.

Ever since my parents passed away and I’m no longer their caregiver, my life has required a lot of adjustment.

On the one hand I’m happy that I have a lot of newfound freedom that I wouldn’t have had otherwise, but on the other I’m not used to their absence.

I’m having to focus entirely on myself for the first time since college. This also means feeling a little overwhelmed by the time that I have that I didn’t have recently. I have to make the use of this time to the best of my ability and sometimes it’s hard to be honest. I was forgetting about a lot of chores that normally would be on my chore list when my parents were still around. Now I’ve got to remember to make lists for myself or I’ll forget to do the same chores I did before like replacing the air conditioner filter frequently. My parents both had allergies in their respiratory system and I was required to replace the HVAC filter at least once every three to four weeks. This was a constant factor living with my parents. Now I have to remember to do the same even though they’re no longer around. I buy a lot of HVAC filters in bulk and leave them in my utility closet so I see them everyday when I take the broom and mop out. It’s important to keep the HVAC filter replaced as frequently as possible so that it’s not making the machine work harder than necessary to keep your home cold.

There’s a lot of advantages to living on a piece of property with lots of land. I feel really lucky that this piece of property actually has woods on it. I can actually go hiking on my own property in the hours before sunset. I don’t have to get in the car and drive down to a local nature preserve. Plus the nature preserve always gets closed down right at sunset. You can’t stay and watch the sun go down otherwise you could get locked in and not get out until the morning. There’s a big gate and somebody comes and locks it every night right at sundown. So I definitely enjoy having all of these woods on my property and being able to go for walks whenever I want to. On top of the hiking opportunities they afford me, I also have plenty of trees for firewood. This year I decided to buy a wood stove to help offset winter heating costs. Otherwise I typically just use an electric furnace but it’s extremely expensive using it throughout the whole winter season. I knew utilizing wood heating would decrease the frequency in which I need to use the central furnace. However, I didn’t anticipate how difficult chopping wood would turn out to be. I need to get one of those electric wood splitters so I don’t have to swing an ax anymore. Worried that I’m going to hurt myself with this ax one of these days. At least I have enough wood cut for the winter season and all the heating that it’s going to require to stay warm indoors.

My wife and I have a lot of differences even though we share a myriad of commonalities.

She prefers Italian food while I prefer Asian food.

We tend to make a lot of compromises with one another and it helps that neither of us is too stubborn to try something different from time to time. I think it’s these compromises that are essential to a healthy relationship. We don’t even really listen to the same music either. When we take road trips sometimes one of us will listen to our phones with headphones and all the other one uses the stereo if they’re the person driving. But it doesn’t stop us from loving one another deeply. Sometimes we’ll connect over the movies we watch together or the time we spend outside of the house. We both loved hiking and it gives us a lot of time to connect on a one-on-one basis. One thing that I always try to emphasize with my wife is keeping her happy with indoor temperatures. We get really cold temperatures outside throughout the year and it’s imperative that we have the furnace working. My wife gets really uncomfortable and upset when she’s shivering. I know that my wife is happier when the furnace is running so I am content to oblige. Even though running the furnace costs a decent amount of money and energy expenses, and much rather my wife will be happy in the long run. If I had to be honest with myself, I guess I sort of prefer having access to air conditioning as well.

I always take my car back to the dealership where I bought it to get all of the maintenance and service work done. They’re always straight with me and they don’t lie about when I need to get work done on a component that actually doesn’t need to be replaced. I’ve had that issue taking my car to tire and lube locations in the past. They’ll make things up and convince you to get work done that is completely superfluous. But the car dealership isn’t looking to make any more money on me at this point since they sold me the car in the first place. They’re just really honest about what work actually needs to be done on my car. Thankfully my heating and cooling companies are largely the same. They sold me my HVAC system so they’re just here to help out and provide the service I pay them to do. I don’t worry about the technician lying and saying I need a new air conditioner when my current one is still good. But I also have a heating and cooling maintenance contract with this company. They service my air conditioner and furnace multiple times a year and I only pay a single flat fee to get all the work done. I realize how important this is now because my sister refused to do the same thing in her house and now her recently installed HVAC system is broken.

That’s why the condensate line removes the water and puts it outdoors

I have always hated and feared water leaks and water damage more broadly speaking. I lived in a house for a while that had water damage done to the floors but the previous tenants tried to hide it. There was a lot of mold in that house just from all of the damaged wood in the subfloors. I ended up moving out of the house because I just couldn’t handle the effect it had on my allergies. I have always looked for homes that lacked any kind of bad water damage in the years since. I’ve also been really fearful of inadvertently causing any water damage as well. That’s why I’m really adamant about having a secondary heating system in the winter season. In case my primary furnace goes out, I don’t want to lose the ability to have indoor heat otherwise my pipes could freeze and then burst. It would lead to catastrophic water damage in my house. But I had no idea that the air conditioner could leak water too. I knew that air conditioners dripped water outside but I never connected that to the water inside the machine in the first place. As air goes through the air conditioner, moisture is pulled from it and it has to go somewhere. That’s why the condensate line removes the water and puts it outdoors. But if the condensate line gets clogged from algae buildup, the water can back up into your air conditioner and flood the areas around the air handler itself. Sometimes this leads to terrible water damage, especially with wood.

I need to put some thick wool socks on my feet or soak them in hot water because they are still cold from the swim I did this morning. My hands are also cold, so I may just put some hot water in the hot water bottle I have and use that to warm them up. I don’t like it when my fingers are cold because I can’t really feel the keys when I am typing and I make a lot of mistakes. I’ll go get that hot water bottle and fill it with hot water from the heating machine that my roommate and I have in our bedroom. It can heat the water to warm in about two minutes, and then I’ll have nice, warm hands again. I might also turn on the radiant floors for a while to warm up my feet, and then I could turn off the heater once they are warm. I will keep my wool socks on all day, though, so my feet stay warm. As for my hands, I just need to keep the flat at a moderate temperature, and they will be fine. I don’t want to turn on my boiler, though, because it’s not that cold outside. It’s more that my hands and feet are cold from the cold swim I took earlier in the day. The sea is also getting warmer, so it won’t be long before my freezing dips in the sea will be a thing of the past until it starts to cool down again in the winter.

After a three-week break, my partner and I are going to a party tomorrow to play some songs.

Our plan is to play a lot this summer and get into more clubs and bars so that my friend and I can make more money and get out of the heat of the streets.

Then, my friend and I will practice on this pier by the sea, which is right next to a beach bar that gets packed, so if the people at the bar like our songs, they might give us some great tips. I take the money that my partner and I earn from playing and use it to buy more sound gear. If my partner and I can make some money this summer, it would be great to buy a nice mini-split air conditioner. My old system is kind of dying, and I need something to keep me cool in the office while I work. I think this summer will be very busy, and if my friend and I play four nights a week like we plan to, we could both make a lot of money. I think the cooling system I want to buy costs about $500, so if my friend and I stick to our playing schedule, I should be able to buy it from a local business in a month or two. I guess my partner and I can each make $200 a week if we play four nights a week, which is pretty easy to do because my partner and I enjoy playing so much. The owner of a climate-controlled club in town is going to have us play there as soon as they finish building it.

I have about 15 more minutes of writing to do, and then I’m going to take a break and do my yoga routine. When I am done with yoga, I’m going to study Spanish for an hour before going back to my work online. I’ll have about another half hour of work to do after yoga, and then I’ll have a couple of hours to just chill out and think. I want this summer to be great, and it’s almost summer, so I’m going to rest a bit. Heating and cooling repairs can be hard on your back, and mine has been hurting a bit, so I’m heating it up and cooling it down to help it heal faster. It is getting better, and I think that in a few nights, I will be back to normal and ready to play volleyball by this weekend. Tonight, I will go see my lady Neus at the local business where she works and just hang out with her and talk while enjoying the air conditioning in her office. Then I’ll go down the street and get a burger at the burger joint. Then I’ll go home for a while to play with the cats and wait for Neus to come home. My friend and I will eat breakfast by the fireplace and play with the cats while our other friend and I listen to some great jazz on the stereo. That is the plan for tonight, and then I will go to bed by 11 o’clock and get a great night’s sleep.
