Throughout the entire summer, we abuse the crap out of our air conditioning system. I can’t help it; I simply have no tolerance for heat and humidity in my living space. The issue isn’t so much that we are combatting the intense afternoon heat, trying to keep the house extremely cool as the blaring summer sun pounds down on the black roof. No, the bigger issue for me is getting my bedroom to be cold enough at night for me to fall asleep. I am damned with terrible insomnia, and adding any extra heat and humidity to the mix only exacerbates my issues 10 times over. That’s why I’m obsessed with operating the central cooling system at a high level at night, and keep a separate AC unit installed in my bedroom to assist with the whole process. It’s not a cheap way to sleep, and I feel very guilty for my particular sleeping specifications. That’s why I honestly look forward to the brutally low temperatures of winter at times. As much as I hate having to go outside and live a normal life bundled up in layers, fighting against the falling snow and frigid windchill, I love how it feels to fall asleep in the winter. There is nothing more comfortable or restful to me than climbing into a cold bed and slowly using my own body heat to create a snuggly warm environment beneath the blankets. If I ever happen to get too overheated, I don’t have to feel bad about turning down the thermostat to cool off my room more. In fact, I can get my own fix of “AC” in about one second flat if I just go and open a window. Winter isn’t all bad.
Intermittent heat in car
If you’ve ever had to take a 10 or 12 or 14 hour car ride, you know that things can start to seem really tense and dire somewhere along the 6 hour mark. From that point on, it’s difficult to retain a sense of balance and patience for the potential pitfalls of the trip, in my experience anyways. I start to get antsy and uncomfortable around that point, and the rest of the ride is spent praying that nothing comes up to try my patience any further. Of course, last weekend this wishful thinking didn’t save me from a totally annoying set of temperature control issues that persisted for the last half of my 12 hour trek across the country. I was somewhere around Tennessee when I noticed that the air temperature in my van was seeming pretty erratic. At one point I felt like I was going to vomit from the heat building up in the vehicle, and only a few moments later I was rubbing my frigid fingers together and wondering why it felt so cold and drafty. I thought perhaps I was getting sick, and kept asking my husband to feel my forehead to see if I was overheating internally, but he was insistent that I felt fine. We realized after another hour of unpredictably hot and cold temperatures in the van that there was definitely an issue with the onboard thermostat. The heat output was spotty at best, and we noticed that often times the air that flowed from each air vent was actually more like air conditioning than heat. Long story short, we made it to our destination eventually, but I was completely over the trip from the first time I caught a chill.
My son wants to be a HVAC professional
My son had been showing a lot of interest in HVAC as his career. He was soon to graduate from high school, and I was beginning to worry. He had shown no interest in getting a job or going to college. His interest in HVAC came as a total surprise, but a pleasant surprise. We had scheduled an appointment to have our air conditioning serviced and my son asked if he could be present when the HVAC technician showed up. While the tech was going through the servicing of the AC unit, my son stood back and watched. He began to ask questions as to what made the AC cool the air. The technician was very patient and he answered all of the questions. He also asked where he could go so he could attend classes to become a certified HVAC technicians. The technician told him about the courses the local college offered in certification for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. He told him it took about eighteen months, or longer if you wanted to specialize. He also asked what got him so interested in HVAC. He said he had seen us struggling with bills over the years and some of the expense was in the maintenance of the furnace and the air conditioner. He thought that having a HVAC tech in the family would help to eliminate some of the burden on us, and it would give him a good job for life. He has no idea how proud I was of him at that moment. He was thinking of us and learning that HVAC was a career that wasn’t going away.
They gave me one more chance
I do not entirely understand the youth of today, they don’t want to work a difficult job… When I was younger, I’d look tirelessly to find full-time work. It was almost impossible to find a full-time work with great pay plus solid benefits. To the point where most of my friends ended up in the mines or on the farms doing back-breaking work most days. I had to spend numerous months in an apprenticeship before I could even learn the trade. During these months, I had to work 50 hours each week, without being paid, to learn how to service gas or oil furnaces and boilers. Now, I can barely get my employees to work 40 hours without complaining about overtime. I own a small A/C service business… Every one of us specialized in the new Green energy when pertaining to HVAC. We have been in business for over 20 years, and every year the employees grow lazier and lazier as time goes on… Last week, I had to fire 2 of my HVAC specialists, and one of these HVAC specialists has been with my company for 3 years. The other HVAC specialist was a new hire from just last month. My employees decided to go have a drink together. While they were out, they got into a bar fight. They were arrested plus held overnight in County Jail. I bailed them out and gave them another chance. The next month they were arrested again, but this time for a DUI. I have no option but fire both of the HVAC specialists. I am sad to lose them because they could have had a promising future in this business. Unfortunately, I cannot condone this behavior after giving them a second chance against my own judgment.
Dry skin and dust needs a humidifier
It is almost February, and I still don’t have all of my indoor Christmas decorations put away. I didn’t really realize that I hadn’t taken them all down until I sat at my kitchen counter. I looked up, and I still had the garland and the wreath on my stairway that leads to the loft. I noticed one other thing, and that was all of the dust that was hanging from the garland and the wreath. It had trails of dust leading from the decorations to the wood railings. I know that it is super dry in my home, because my hair is full of static and my skin is so dry that it hurts. I guess I didn’t think about how my dry skin and hair, could be because the house is so dry. I also know that I have a problem with my air vents. I knew that I had to take the air vents out and clean the air ducts. If cleaning the air vents and air ducts doesn’t get rid of the dust problem, I will have to have someone check my ductwork and to clean it. I know my husband changed the air filter in the furnace, just recently. He has also turned on the humidifiers to get some extra moisture into our home. I used to have lotion for my skin, but I recently found something better. It is almost hard and it smooths onto the skin, but it smells really good. Hopefully, between the new salve and the humidifiers, I will not have the cracks to go with the dry skin.
The mall HVAC is driving people away
I am done shopping at malls because the HVAC is just too horrible. Online shopping has made everything easier and simpler. I used to go to the mall once a month, more during the holidays. Now I don’t ever go to a mall. The temperature control settings in the mall are totally out of whack. In the summer the mall blasts the air conditioning to the point that I feel the need to buy a jacket. Is that a marketing ploy? Whoever sets the thermostat does not realize that normal humans don’t want to be 40 degrees in the summer. In the winter the mall heater is out of control. We have to dress for the outdoor elements. I have to wear a thick wool coat and boots to be outside. Once I am inside I wish I was wearing a swimsuit. Really, the indoor temperature of the mall should not be so different than outside. We dress for the outdoor weather so have inside match it. The HVAC can make it slightly more comfortable, but not the reverse. All it does is irritate people. Now that I shop online, I have perfect HVAC. I don’t need to drive or get dressed up either. In the winter I sit in front of my heater with hot chocolate and buy what I need. In the summer I can sit outside on my deck and get what I have to get. Online shopping is going to get rid of all the malls of the world. The HVAC is really driving people away too.
We have a big problem here
The greatest quality my young niece posses is her strong will as well as independence. Although at times her need to explore as well as do everything on her own can be taxing, all of us all think she a strong as well as independent young lady; Everyone in the family knows, that no matter what, she finds a way to get things done herself as well as on her own terms, however just before my sibling was due to supply birth, all of us all packed ourselves in our warmest clothes as well as faced the flying Winter season storm to travel to our family home. Although it was frosty as well as snowy, the forecast was for undoubtedly little snow. The people I was with and I also knew that this was likely one of the last times all of us would see each other before my sibling gave birth. So, through the frosty as well as the snow all of us went. To prepare for our arrival, my mother had built a small fire in the living room as well as my father had turned the seasoned gas furnace on high to make sure all of us were all warm. Once all of us arrived as well as warmed up, all of us all realized the weather was not letting up as well as all of us would likely be staying the night at my parents house. As the hours past, the snow gathered outside, however none of us minded as well as were thankful that the gas furnace was keeping the house so warm. At the height of the storm, my sibling started having contractions. The people I was with and I called the ambulance, however the baby was ready to come. In front of the warmth of the fire, my sibling gave birth. Just as the day she was born, my niece is still doing things on her own terms.

Did you ever meet one of those people who thinks they know more or have a better life than you do? They feel the need to go one better no matter what you say or do. I personally, find this to be just about the most annoying personality trait ever. I live a simple life, eat simple food, and have a modest home. It has everything I need and I am quite comfortable living there. I decided to host a backyard barbeque last week and I invited several of my coworkers. They were allowed to bring a plus one and I thought it would be a lot of fun. Little did I know, one of my coworkers was married to just that type of personality. From the moment they arrived I could feel her eyes lurking around my home and deciding what was less than perfect. I felt better once we were outside enjoying the backyard.
Long range plans
My brother called the other day to tell me about a great opportunity that had been presented to him. He works as a general contractor and is always working for homeowners doing odd jobs. Well, this particular homeowner has used his services for the past five years and always seemed pleased with my brother’s work and prices. Apparently he approached my brother with a business and investment opportunity. The homeowner wanted to purchase a twenty four unit apartment building but needed to make sure that it was going to be safe and sturdy for years to come. This investment would help him fund his retirement years so he didn’t want to purchase a “money pit”. He wanted my brother to be his contractor for any and all repairs both upfront and in the future. He said he would be willing to pay him a monthly fee, regardless if work needed to be done that week, and sign a contract with him for a five year term. This would mean guaranteed income for him as well as pay for the jobs he would need to do. It seems like a great deal for him and with the added income it will allow my brother to put away money for his own place someday. My only advice for him was that he have a reliable subcontractor for things like the HVAC systems and cable/internet services. These are areas that require specialized repairs that my brother really doesn’t have the ability to do. If he hires a reputable company and works out set fees he should still be able to keep the building’s owner happy and ensure that the heat or air conditioning are safe and serviced on a regular basis.
