The other day, I was trying to text my husband that we needed our HVAC system maintenance. Little did I know I texted the wrong person! I actually texted my husband’s brother. He was replying saying not to waste our money on an official HVAC company since he could handle the maintenance on his own for no charge to us. I was skeptical of his skills with heating and cooling equipment, and I really didn’t think he was a certified HVAC technician. He came over to our house and he worked on the HVAC system. He was tinkering around with everything and cleaning everything out. While I had to admit, he did a great job cleaning everything out, but other than that, I’m not sure that he knew what he was doing. He said he works on his HVAC equipment all the time and he never really has any problems. Well, a few days later the HVAC system entirely failed. We called the professionals this time around and the HVAC technician said somebody did a real number on our HVAC equipment, but at least it was clean inside. He replaced some parts and got the HVAC system working great again. He reminded us never to let any people work on the equipment who were not HVAC certified. He also told us to remember to change out the air filter every other month, and to remember to schedule an appointment to have the ductwork cleaned out sometime down the road. I told my husband that we definitely wouldn’t be letting his brother work on our equipment ever again.
