If something can go wrong, it probably will eventually. You can’t ever get too comfortable with life because something can shatter what you have gotten used to. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone through this truth, but I probably don’t have to either. Although we can always try to prepare for every eventuality, we can’t ever be fully prepared for everything all the time. This is something we all get to know at some point; every one of us. Anyway, the reason I am mentioning all this, is because my family’s Christmas get together was hampered by a bad furnace last year. First of all, I would like to think we do a decent job keeping up with our furnace and its needs, however we had somewhat neglected it as of late. A massive cold front coming through where we live pushed our furnace to the limit, as we were really cranking up our HVAC system to remain warm. We had failed to get our furnace inspected in the fall, so there were problems with our furnace that were never addressed. It was around 8:00 when we passed around Christmas gifts, and we noticed quite a chill in the air. Our heater had given out on us. A furnace malfunction was not going to stop us, so we continued opening gifts. We did have a fireplace beside the Christmas tree, so I lit it and we all gathered close around it. It was still so very cold, but at least we had some measure of heat to make up for no central heating It was still a memorable Christmas that year, but it would have been nice to have been warm and toasty for Christmas.
