The greatest quality my young niece posses is her strong will and independence. Although at times her need to explore and do everything on her own can be taxing, we all know she a strong and independent young lady. Everyone in the family knows, that no matter what, she finds a way to get things done herself and on her own terms. Just before my sister was due to give birth, we all packed ourselves in our warmest clothes and faced the flying winter storm to travel to our family home. Although it was cold and snowy, the forecast was for very little snow. We also knew that this was likely one of the last times we would see each other before my sister gave birth. So, through the cold and the snow we went. To prepare for our arrival, my mother had built a small fire in the living room and my father had turned the old furnace on high to make sure we were all warm. Once we arrived and warmed up, we all realized the weather was not letting up and we would likely be staying the night at my parents house. As the hours past, the snow gathered outside, but none of us minded and were thankful that the furnace was keeping the house so warm. At the height of the storm, my sister started having contractions. We called the ambulance, but the baby was ready to come. In front of the warmth of the fire, my sister gave birth. Just as the day she was born, my niece is still doing things on her own terms.
