Whenever I tell people that I have worked for the same company ever since I was eighteen years old they are always a bit caught off guard.
The main reason why I have worked for the same company is actually pretty simple.
They take care of me, and my coworkers and I have great relationships. Back when I was eighteen and going through my HVAC heating and cooling training I was pretty bad in all aspects. I was a very slow learner and had zero natural talent when it came to HVAC repair, and despite this the company took a chance on me and hired me after I had completed training. As the years went by my fellow HVAC repair techs showed me the ropes of the industry and we were able to form a very tight bond. It is a great feeling to know that if I am injured or can’t go to work for any reason I know without a doubt that one of my friends at work will be able to cover for me. The statistics say that the majority of people will work for five to six different companies in their lifetime, and I am glad that I haven’t followed that type of path. My kids have seen how stable of a career I have had and now they are both starting to consider entering the HVAC industry after they are finished with school. I am now starting to approach retirement, and I can’t wait to see all of the men and women that I have worked with through the years all come back to my retirement party.
