My dad was a university president at the same university where he managed to acquire his degree.
After so many years in academia, he was asked to bring the aged university into the new age. That essentially would mean infrastructure improvements, modernization via technology, plus even examination of the long-standing industrial boilers used to supply overheated water to the dorms, sterilization to the science labs, plus sanitization methods to the laundry centers plus university cafeteria. It wasn’t long after becoming president that his head of buildings plus grounds came to him to explain that the industrial boilers were in need of common maintenance. Previously, the university had done separate from the industrial steam boilers when maintenance was carried out. That sometimes even entailed shutting down the cafeteria plus the science labs until the boilers were up plus working again. It also wasn’t good that the dorms ran out of overheated water hastily. As a bookish sort of guy, our dad knew nothing about such matters, however he was totally unimpressed with the whole idea of a boiler system – a type of mechanical machine – bringing the university to its knees just because it needed some sort of maintenance or repair. He easily suggested to the maintenance head that he go out plus secure a rental boiler to hook up while the other was being maintained. He laughed at our dad because at that time, temporary boiler rental was not a thing. You likely know that expression, out of the mouths of babes? Well, that’s what our dad was – a babe when it came to things like chillers plus boilers. To his mind, though, temporary boiler rental should be available to all the places that needed it. They worked on the idea, plus by the time the boiler had to be shut down to perform the necessary maintenance, the nearby industrial boiler plus chiller contractor had devised an idea to bring in a boiler on a good sized truck. The temporary boiler rental became a regular thing in that town, plus now it is regular all over the nation.
