When our son bought his first house, we toured the place with him.
He said it needed some work and he also needed to get a new HVAC system.
I told him as a housewarming gift, we would buy him a new HVAC system. He was really happy about that, but I warned him that he better take care of the regular HVAC system maintenance. He said he definitely would, but I knew how he tended to slack on important things like that, so I was a little bit worried. Well, everything seemed alright over the years and he always said he was taking great care of the HVAC system, and I believed him. Well, the one day we were there, I noticed the air quality was awful and it seemed like the HVAC system was struggling. He did mention that his energy bills spiked a little bit, but he could take care of it. Well, it was only halfway through the dinner we were having together when the heating system quit working altogether. I went with him to check the HVAC system and the air filter was so clogged and dirty, I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to yell at him for neglecting the HVAC system, but I figured he had to learn this lesson for himself why it’s important to take good care of the HVAC. We had an HVAC professional come out and the guy said the HVAC was so heavily neglected like it had never been maintained and the air filters seemed to be changed rarely. The HVAC was only 4 years old, and it was completely dead and had to be replaced. I told my son he would have to cover this on his own because he’s the one who destroyed it.
