Recently, I’ve been paying a lot more attention to what I do have instead of what I don’t.

Occasionally, our culture can be one where we just don’t live in gratitude as much as perhaps is good for us.

I came from a background where we didn’t even have residential HVAC. But we regularly had what we needed and we were ecstatic. My folks worked difficult to supply for us but never at the cost of the happiness of the family. I’m still sort of in awe of that. The home I grew up in was smallish but we didn’t need all that much space since it was our parents, our sibling and me. There was a wood stove for heating while we were in the winter. Dad and I spent lots and lots of time together cutting, hauling, cutting and stacking firewood to supply Wintertide heating. The summers weren’t super sizzling but we did have a window a/c that dad would install in June and then take out when we went back to university. I guess about those nights and marvel at just how ecstatic and whole we all were. So, I’m increasing our perspective a bit as I look around at our life. I’m just so thankful to have the latest in residential HVAC with all the HVAC technology to boot. Our home is regularly so inviting and comfortable. And yet, I often take the essential heating and cooling for our family and myself completely and totally for granted. So from here on out, I’m going to supply thanks each time I enter the home and love the perfect conditions thanks to our central air conditioning.

But I don’t have any worries any longer when it comes to getting our workout in these nights.

I’m absolutely motivated to go to the gym these nights. That’s so not been the case over the course of our life. Normally, it has taken so much effort to get to the gym either before or after being in the zone controlled HVAC of the office. All I really ever wanted to do was to get lake home to the central air conditioning of our home and just sit. The task I have inside that zone controlled HVAC is a stresser. There is rarely a day where I’m not solving some important crisis. That ends up wearing me out something serious. So the last thing I really wanted to do was to go work out. The thought of sitting in our recliner with the HVAC cooling was much more appealing. In fact, I would have to go straight to the gym after leaving the commercial HVAC of the office. If I went home, I’d find a way or a reason not to get changed and go to the gym. Plus, the gym I belonged to was regularly so crowed which roughed up the HVAC unit’s ability to supply adequate HVAC cooling. Just so much heat and humidity being generated in that space which would then overwhelm the commercial HVAC. But I don’t have any worries any longer when it comes to getting our workout in these nights. I put in a lake home gym with a bunch of used exercise equipment. And I had the HVAC professionals come out to install a ductless heat pump. Now, I get that fantastic HVAC cooling while I’m working out in our own space. That’s all the motivation I need.

First, I have to say that I can hardly even suppose that I have a home that comes with a guest cottage.

This is the same guy who grew up in a home whose primary heating system was a wood stove.

During the summer, dad would put a large window air conditioning component in the window of the residing room for cooling. While the wood stove cranked the heating and was awesome, you pretty much had to rest in front of the window a/c. So the method that I would own a lake home that comes with a mini lake home out back is crazy. Shoot, I could live inside the guest cottage the rest of our life and be perfectly ecstatic. It’s one dining room with a small dining room and a fantastic residing area. In fact, now that we’ve finally gotten around to giving the guest cottage some attention, it’s one of the coolest parts of the property. My wife fell in like with this locale a few years ago. Once we bought it, there were various renovations to do. Those included putting in state of the art residential HVAC and so much HVAC technology that I’m not so sure how to use it. With all the stuff that was going on in the main house, the guest cottage was forgotten. Well that all just changed as the same HVAC corporation installed a pair of ductless heat pumps inside the guest cottage. I upgraded the furnishing, painted and had current flooring put down. The locale is awesome now and if you can’t find me in the main home that’s because I’m right here with the ductless heat pumps in the guest cottage.

• Prior to moving way up here when our wife got transferred, I didn’t even own long pants.

I had a navy suit if it required me wearing long pants. Nevermind the fact that I’d never spent a second in a Wintertide that needed a gas heating system. There were no boots, hats, scarves, gloves and the list goes on and on. I has zero understanding of what it takes to live with a real winter. So I had to look like a complete idiot. Fortunately, I work from lake home so at least I didn’t embarrass myself in front of an office of our peers. I’m not sure that working at our desk with a comforter draped over me and a space oil furnace under the desk is exactly typical. My first Wintertide was more about just surviving it than it was figuring it out. The cold weather, snow and ice just sort of punched me in the mouth and I was staggered all winter. Thankfully, while the climate is not hospitable, the folks around here sure are. My neighbor has been so instrumental this early fall with helping me understand what it take to winterize a house. Of course, last winter, I just laid into the temperature control but it seemed like I could never get warm. Even though I was running up a luck in HVAC heating costs, I was still cold. Hence the comforter and space oil furnace at our desk. But thanks to our kind neighbor, I’m getting a step by step lesson in preparing our home to keep the cold air out and the heating inside.

I was expecting more efficiency sure

I just like it when I get good news. And that goes double for when that good news is both unexpected and a bit of a surprise. Normally, surprising news is terrible news. At least that’s the way it seems to work out inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office. When I get surprised there, it tends to be more like blind sided. So getting good news that I didn’t expect about the current HVAC component was just awesome. The HVAC corporation told us last fall while we were in the HVAC heating service that the heat pump was about to be done. This wasn’t a shock supply the age of the HVAC equipment. Yet, since there isn’t much call for HVAC heating while we were in our winters, we had some time to figure out what to do. While we had some currency saved, we’d still need to finance a portion of the current HVAC component and installation. The HVAC corporation had good terms there so we ended up going with the latest in residential HVAC and all the HVAC technology we could get. The thought was that we may end up selling in a few years so having fantastic HVAC component adds large value to the home. But what I’ve been so surprised about is the efficiency level. We are paying so much less in heating and cooling costs that it’s helping us absolutely pay for the current HVAC unit. It doesn’t get much better than that. I was expecting more efficiency sure. But this is stunning and we are putting all those savings right toward this awesome current HVAC equipment.

There’s a lot more to this homeowner business than I thought there was.

I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting since I’ve never owned a lake home before.

But I suppose I have to tip our cap to mom and dad who made it all look pretty self-explanatory. Yet, owning this home isn’t all about coming lake home and putting our feet up in the air conditioning. Although, I have to say that the heating and cooling in our current palace is amazing. That’s one of the first things I had to do once I owned the home. There are plenty of projects left to do for sure. This locale was absolutely a fixer upper for sure. But the first thing I did was have the HVAC professionals unconnect and replace the outdated HVAC unit. I was able to get the latest in residential HVAC and all the HVAC technology that I so wanted. It’s been worth every penny I spent on the current HVAC component for sure. But along with the current HVAC component came added responsibilities. And that’s what I’ve observed more than anything. While I’m trying to update the locale as hastily as possible, the list is long. So there has to be a bit of patience and just everyday residing as well. That means taking care of the yard and making sure the dining room is scrub each and every night. Then there are things like being sure the HVAC air filter is replaced every single month. That’s super important as is the HVAC service. So the air filter change is in our calendar every month and our devices alert me to change the air filter. As for the HVAC service, I was smart enough to join the HVAC service proposal so they do all the scheduling and I just confirm via SMS.

When the people I was with and I finished laboring with the HVAC contractor on replacing the old HVAC unit, all I had to do then was wait.

And I’m not wonderful at waiting.

In fact, it felt as though I was waiting on a anniversary present that I knew I’d be getting. For sure, I knew the latest in residential HVAC was on its way however I had to wait. Due to supply chain concerns, the HVAC component was held up a bit. Seems like that is area of the new normal post pandemic. The wait was about 6 weeks & I should have just been thankful that the old HVAC machine was still holding on until it could be replaced. Instead, I just got more & more gleeful about what it was going to be like with the new residential HVAC unit. All of us were upgrading in a unquestionably sizable way from the old HVAC unit. It had been wonderful as far as longevity, reliability & basic comfort. No complaints there at all. However, the new HVAC component was coming with a whole lot of new HVAC technology. That’s what was so utterly exciting for me. All of us were going to have zone controlled HVAC & a smart temperature control for starters. Then, the SEER rating on the new HVAC machine was off the charts so it was going to be super efficient for sure. All of this was so exciting that I’m blissful our wife was listening to the HVAC professional when the installation finally happened. I was so gleeful that I would have missed getting the HVAC warranty registered with the factory in time. That would have voided the HVAC warranty. My wife comes through once again.

It’s one family room with a small kitchen & a wonderful living area. When my parents bought the house that they planned to retire in, I noted that the basement was fully finished.

• Apparently, it had been sort of a guy cave for the previous owner.

But I also noticed that there weren’t any Heating, Ventilation, & A/C air ducts down there either. Still, the basement was nice & would end up serving my parents well. They moved out of the large family home I grew up in with my siblings & brothers into their current stadium about 6 years ago. I was surprised they kept the family home that long. Just the heating & cooling costs alone would have driven me to sell it. Yet, I feel mom was not at all sold on the proposal of giving up his house. Finally, they were able to find a much smaller house but one that was still awfully nice & in a gated community. I wondered what that location must mean to the mortgage payments & I finally got my answer. This past couple of years, Mom’s investments have been taking a beating & his finances were not where he’d want them. Just paying the mortgage was becoming a stress. So I came up with the proposal of having the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professionals come out to install a pair of ductless heat pumps inside the basement. Then, I helped him created a small galley kitchen. Added to the bathroom & the interior walls already existing, our improvements created a great apartment. They are now covering nearly 69 percent of the mortgage by renting out the basement.

I’m all about getting the most from the money that I spend.

And so, I’m regularly looking for ways to get the most value for my dollar.

That’s not regularly so self-explanatory. So often, every one of us are shopping online to accommodate our scheduled schedule. And it’s sometime just not the ideal way to be sure that every one of us are getting quality products. I feel the benefits of sitting at the computer inside the central a/c of our homes periodically gets in the way of responsible spending. But thankfully, every one of us can return the stuff that is obviously not of good value. There is something that I have done twice a year which has provided so much value & I wasn’t even trying. That’s care about hitting the trifecta really. I’m talking about the fact that I belong to the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service proposal provided by my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C supplier. This allows me to get great Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair twice a year along with discounts on all sorts of other Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service. And if there is repair to the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C unit, I just pay for the parts as their is no Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service charge. That’s how great a bet Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair is. Now that every one of us are looking at getting current residential Heating, Ventilation, & A/C, I’m finally seeing just how much value for my dollar I got from Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C unit every one of us have is pretty good but not top shelf. However, there hasn’t been one hour of downtime due to an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C breakdown in 26 years. That’s all due to the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair. And that right there is an incredible value on so several levels.
