Repairing the furnace

My daughter is getting to the age where she starts waking up in the middle of the night and having nightmares, and about 99.9 percent of the time, I know that it’s just her dreams waking her up and scaring her into thinking there is a monster in her room, but these past few nights, she keeps saying that she’s hearing noises and that these noises are coming from underneath her bed. Every time she comes into our room and says this we go back into her room turn on the light and look underneath the bed for her, showing her that there is no monster under her bed, that same night I decided to sit in her bed with her to help her fall asleep. I accidentally fell asleep, too, but after that I woke up hearing the same noise. I knew what the noise was and it was loud and could be alarming for a little girl. The noise indeed was coming from underneath her bed and the noise was from the furnace that is directly underneath her bed in the basement. It sounded like the furnace was going to cut off at any minute! So I went to the temperature control to shut the furnace off. To turn the furnace off it’s absolutely easy through the temperature control. All I have to do is switch the lever over to off, it’s that easy. I went downstairs to the furnace and I could hear it coming to a screeching halt. I knew that it wasn’t a good sign so I made sure to write a note and leave it on the family room table so in the afternoon I could call the heating and cooling specialist to come over and take a look at our furnace. I had a feeling that the screeching sound was due to a blower motor or belt because when the furnace stopped and turned back up again it would make that sound.
