I worry about our grandmother more and more lately.
Since my grandad died, she has been all alone in that house! However, that is actually the way she prefers it, since she insists on complete independence.
Of course, that was fine for a while. She has easily made that house hers and hers alone, and I respect that about her. However, I am starting to wonder whether or not she might need other accommodations that would be more suitable for her. The house is a two-story house and it has a basement as well, which means she has to keep going up and down stairs quite often, and that worries me. She also insists on doing yard work with a manual mower! Maybe she still has the modicum of strength left to deal with such things, however it is the lack of regular climate control in her old house that really worries me and others in the family the most. In the summertime, she barely uses her air conditioner. She relies on a few fans here and there, but using the cooling system equipment would be far more effective. Even though I think that the A/C system is getting old and worn out. But Grandma has an HVAC corporation come out to repair it at least once a year, or so she says. I am thinking about saving up the money to buy her a brand new type of cooling system. I don’t think she would be able to ignore such kindness coming from her granddaughter! Hopefully she would be thankful and she would use it, or at least I hope she would!
