I needed a few modifications done to my home after 10 years of no changes of any kind.
The first thing I paid to install were double pane windows throughout, followed by radiant heated flooring that was installed below my existing subflooring.
It cost a lot more than I initially expected, however the savings in heating costs each week while we were in the recent polar vortex assuage any fears I might have had in not making up the costs of the initial investment. A lot of the savings were in part due to having an existing boiler idea in place that I simply modified to handle the load of the pipes in the radiant subflooring. Regardless of the costs and time spent with my home torn apart, I assume it was 1 of the best investments I have ever made. My husbandy prefers it, my adolescents care about it, however more than anyone else, my dogs truly care about it. Before, I would find them curled up in closets on blankets or laundry to stay warm. Now the multiple of them stretch out on the bare flooring and snooze away while the radiant heat keeps them warm. I assume the change has made them lazier too since they sleep about twice as much as they used to before the up-to-date radiant radiant floors were installed. My parents visited while we were in the holidays this past year and they both appreciated the up-to-date heating idea so much that I’m helping them get in touch with a business in their home state and neighborhood to go over chances with them by the end of next week. With all of the buzz going around in our family, I heard recently that my brother wants to install radiant heated flooring as well. Funny thing though, I’m not sure if he even knows remotely how much it costs.
