My boyfriend decided that he should move back out so I could have the thermostat to myself
The older I get the less impressed I am with romantic relationships. When I was younger I feel like I really idealized the thought of having a romantic partner. As you actually have those experiences with another human being, however, you eventually realize that it is not that great. Actually, our relationships are extremely stressful and they often do not give you as much satisfaction as you expect. This is one of the reasons that I wasn’t very upset when my boyfriend told me that he wanted to break up. Honestly, it seems like it had been a long time coming. Since we lived together all we did was bigger. We were always fighting over the utilities, the energy bill, and the heating, cooling, and ventilation system. The air conditioner and forced air furnace were particularly big problems for us because we both had a very different idea of the ideal indoor air temperature. I tend to be very cold blooded and I like to use the heating system. He was often overheated and wanted to operate the powerful air conditioning device. As a result, we spent a lot of time fighting over the thermostat and causing our energy bills to increase drastically. Finally, things reached a breaking point when we started locking each other out of the smart thermostats to protect our own indoor air temperature control settings. I think that’s when we knew that we needed a massive lifestyle change. My boyfriend decided that he should move back out so I could have the thermostat to myself. He has gone back to his mini split ductless heating and cooling system in his apartment and I have the central HVAC at my disposal. Maybe our relationship could work if we kept our HVAC separated.
