My generation of kids entertained ourselves the right way, as far as I’m concerned. We didn’t stare at a screen all day. Sure, we would watch a lot of TV and play our primitive video games, but not before getting our fair share of exercise outside. We would throw the football and shoot hoops in our driveway. We would ride our bikes and play street hockey. And in the summertime, we would run around in the sprinkler and blast each other with water guns. When I was a kid, my parents had one of the only houses on the block with central heating and air. When it came time to calm down from our rough housing and head inside, my friends really enjoyed kicking back and relaxing at my place more than any of their houses. We would come in, all sweaty in the summer, grab a few sodas from the refrigerator and lounge around in front of the television. Sometimes, my friends would practically pass out in the blissful delight of the A/C coming from the vents, and they were reluctant when it was time to finally head to their own respective homes. It was actually pretty easy to see why. Most of their homes only had a couple window A/C units here and there that did not necessarily do a good job of cooling the entire house; just certain parts of it. I understood why they envied our family, especially on the few occasions when I visited one of their houses in the dead of Summer!
