My girlfriend’s family has figured out that I am a handy guy. At first I thought this was a really good thing. I could help out her family members and score some extra points. Now though, I hate being the go to guy. If there is an electrical issue, a plumbing problem or a HVAC repair, I am called. I am constantly getting called for free labor. I hate spending every evening and weekend working for my girlfriend’s family. The calls have gotten more and more ridiculous too. I am basically their on call HVAC worker. My girlfriend’s brother called me the other day to fix his HVAC equipment. When I arrived there, I realized the issue was the air filter was dirty. He wanted me to go the store, buy an air conditioning filter and replace it. I told him what he needed to do and just left. The next day I got a call from the mother about the air conditioner. The AC system just had a clogged condensate drain. All you need to do is open up the AC, fish out the algae and you are back in business. These are not major HVAC repairs. These are everyday tasks homeowners with HVAC need to do. I plan to tell my girlfriend no more free HVAC help. They either pay me hourly like any other HVAC professional or I am refusing to go over there. I don’t care if her brother has no temperature control or if her mom’s AC system leaks water. I also am at the point where I don’t care if they like me.
