After clocking out of work a few days ago, I was called into my bosses office because he wanted to talk to me about a few things.
When I sat down he ended up talking to me about how he wanted to promote me to a manager position, but he wanted to have a conversation about it over dinner to go over the details.
I was extremely caught off guard, and I was so excited that I recommended that my wife and I could host dinner that night. When I arrived home and was about to tell my wife the great news however, I could tell that something was wrong. That was when my wife told me that the air conditioning had broken and isn’t responding. I knew that this was bound to happen soon, and I had even scheduled an HVAC checkup for next week but that just wasn’t going to do. I had to host a dinner in a few hours, and I didn’t want my boss to be sweaty and miserable without the air conditioning and get a bad impression of me! I decided to call my buddy from college who is an HVAC tech and have him talk me through how to get my a/c unit running again. After nearly an hour and a half of unscrewing things and many close calls, I had somehow managed to get the cool air flowing with 30 minutes to spare before the big dinner! If I went through all of this trouble to make sure that my boss has a great evening and I still don’t get the job, then at least I know I might have a potential career as an HVAC repairman!
