In some countries, a/cs are considered dangerous

When I worked as a professor in a foreign country, there were a lot of things that I would have to get used to about this current culture, there were some things that I was expecting because of research as well as guessing, however others caught me completely off guard.

One of the things that caught me completely off-guard was their complete hostility towards a/cs.

They had central air conditioning in the foreign country where I lived, however the people as well as the government were not as cheerful about the a/cs as I was! In most public buildings, it wasn’t surprising to find that they had no a/cs to keep you cool. I didn’t understand why they didn’t love a/cs at first, however as I began to ask questions as well as learn, I started to realize that their culture, recognizably their medicinal culture, was absolutely against a/cs. They believed that using the a/c was harshly harmful to you. If you used an a/c after being outside in the heat or exerting yourself physically, they believed that this would put you at risk. If you used an a/c in the summer, you were also at risk. I never understood that 1, because I didn’t understand why you would use an a/c at any other time. They also taught that a/cs could potentially cause cancer, now, there is no reason that a officially functioning a/c would cause cancer, however there was no convincing the natives. However, I continued using the a/c anyways. I liked my a/c too much to care.
