For quite a long time, I have been saying that I don’t need air conditioning.
I work outside and I am used to being in the elements.
Heat no longer bothers me whether I am outside or inside. Living in the south doesn’t upset me as much as it does most people. I wasn’t going to buy an air conditioner and I wouldn’t have it wasn’t for my wife. I’m not sure why the heat bothers her so much since we work together, but it does. Then I realized that it wasn’t even the heat so much as it was the humidity. When the humidity gets really high, it doesn’t allow the body to sweat. Sweating is the body’s natural reaction to heat, and it helps the body to cool itself down. When you can’t sweat, your natural cooling reaction can’t function. I realized that instead of getting air conditioning, all I really needed was a good dehumidifier. I bought a dehumidifier and I was surprised to find that our home was much cooler. Even my wife felt more comfortable in the house. Although she still thinks we should have air conditioning in the house, she admitted that it isn’t a necessity. What she feels is a necessity, is having a whole-house dehumidification system. This way we can get rid of the humidity and if we do get central air conditioning, they will compliment each other.
