I was in the attic last week, rooting around for all my outdoor Christmas decorations; I wanted to get them out and ready to put up over the weekend.
Within 5 hours of getting into the attic, I was so tepid I was perspiring.
I could not guess how I walked around in a jacket while downstairs, but up here, I could have worn shorts and a tank top, and still been hot. I started quickly thinking about this, and it hit me that the heat rises… The insulation in my attic looked a bit broken down, and I wondered if the heat was rising from downstairs up to the attic. I could not guess I hadn’t thought of this before, then four years earlier, my dad had put new insulation in my attic, and it made a lot of difference. He told me to have it checked every year, but I forgot. Here it was more than three years later, and although the insulation was still there, it looked like elephants had been trampling on it. It was compressed so tightly it surprised me the heat could get through. I called the residential heating and A/C company to have my air duct cleaned, because that’s what dad did. I then called the local home center to see what insulation I needed for my attic! Dad was going to be proud of me when I told him how I handled the insulation and helped to save currency by keeping the oil furnace from running all the time. I was saving energy and saving on the wear and tear of my oil furnace. Insulation was also an energy saver, and the saver of my oil furnace.
