The rest of the house wasn’t warm

I was in the attic last week, rooting around for all our outdoor Christmas decorations, but I wanted to get them out and ready to put up over the weekend… Then within several minutes of getting into the attic, I was so warm I was dripping with sweat.

I could not conceive how I walked around in a sweater while downstairs; but up here, I could have worn shorts and a tank top, and still been hot.

I started thinking about this, and it hit me that the heat rises; the insulation in our attic looked a bit broken down, and I wondered if the heat was rising from downstairs up to the attic. I could not suppose I hadn’t thought of this before; and four years earlier, our dad had put new insulation in our attic, and it made a lot of difference, he told me to have it evaluated every year, even though I forgot. Here it was more than three years later, and although the insulation was still there, it looked as if elephants had been trampling on it. It was compressed so tightly it surprised me the heat could get through. I called the heating and A/C corporation to have our HVAC duct cleaned, because that’s what dad did. I then called the local condo center to see what insulation I needed for our attic; Dad was going to be proud of me when I told him how I handled the insulation and helped to save currency by keeping the oil furnace from running all the time. I was saving energy and saving on the wear and tear of our oil furnace. Insulation was an energy saver, and the saver of our central oil furnace.
