When my mother started complaining about the harsh heat in the summertime I bought her a window air conditioner.
At the time I thought I was making a smart move.
She needed the AC to sleep at night due to menopause. The window AC offered a small remote that she could turn it on and off if she wanted. She could lower the temperature and up the fan speed. My mother loved it. I realized that I locked myself in a job twice a year. One time I was called to bring the AC unit down from the attic and install it. The next time I get called to remove the cooling unit and bring it back to the attic since it is the winter season. It got annoying since my mother wasn’t really patient. When she wanted the AC in a new spot, she was all over me. I started looking for something that could stay in her room all year. I found a ductless mini split to be the best option. Now her HVAC unit is mounted on an exterior wall. She still has a remote to change the temperature. Instead of just AC, it provides heating too. So my mother no longer needs to remove it with seasonal changes. The mini split is significantly more powerful too. If my mother wanted, she could open her door and provide adequate temperature control to the whole first floor of the house. She just loves her new machine. I love that I don’t need to mess with her HVAC needs anymore.
