One of the reasons I was so cheerful when I moved into my first apartment was how much autonomy I was going to have while living alone.
I grew up in a family of six. I had four other siblings, and so I never got quite that much privacy. I shared a bedroom with at least one of my siblings the entire time I lived with our parents. I sure was cheerful to go off to college, but after that I ended up sharing a room with two other roommates! Again, besides the privacy thing, there was another constant annoyance for me at home and at school. I could never have full control of the temperature setting! My parents would always keep the A/C turned up too high for my liking, and even during the hottest Summer days, college was no better. With my new place, though, I alone have complete access to the temperature control! It is a dream come true. I can now crank up the air-conditioning unit as high as I want it to go. And make no mistake, I fully intend to keep the new air conditioning unit as serviced as it can be. It’s really my responsibility as the renter to do so. I have no problem with this since the A/C is undoubtedly powerful as well as comfortable. I guess that as long as I live alone, I will enjoy free reign over the temperature control. I just pray that any roommate or boyfriend that I end up living with will have similar tastes when it comes to controlling the temperature!
