One of the reasons I was so ecstatic when I got my first home was how much freedom I was going to have living alone! I grew up in a family with lots of other siblings, and I never got very much privacy at all.
I shared a room with at least one sister as long as I can remember, so I was pretty happy to go off to university. But wouldn’t you know it? I ended up sharing a room with two other roommates! Again, besides the privacy thing, there was another constant annoyance for me at home and also at university. I never had control of the temperature in the room no matter what. At home, my parents regularly set too warm of a temperature on the a/c, even during the hottest summer days. And then university was no better. But with my new home, I now have total and complete access to the temperature control! It was a dream come true for me. I can now crank up the air-conditioning component to as high as I want it to go! And of course now I fully intend to keep the a/c component as well maintained as possible, as it’s my responsibility as the tenant to do so. I have no problem with this; it’s a very powerful plus comfortable A/C unit. I guess that as long as I live alone, I will really love having this free reign over the temperature control. I just pray that any future roommate or significant other that I end up living with someday will have similar tastes when it comes to temperature!
