Surprised by how many people follow my HVAC repair jobs

There’s a niche for everything.

  • Have you heard that before? I never thought that it was true, because all you see on the internet is the same popular ideas spread over and over again…

But I guess that’s because it’s the mainstream opinion, rather than promoting the niche interests that people secretly follow. I had a hard time believing this myself until I accidentally created a social media following online for my regular job. I had no clue that my day job was worthy of a fan base, but apparently there is a significant interest in indoor air quality control and management. When I became a heating and cooling technician about 10 years ago, I never thought that air conditioning systems and furnaces were very interesting. I went into the HVAC industry simply because it was a steady way to earn a paycheck and I enjoy working with my hands. Several years into the air quality control specialist occupation, I randomly decided that it might be a good idea to take pictures of my AC repairs during the hot summer season. People often asked me how to repair and diagnose their own cooling systems, so I started snapping photos in the middle of my AC repair jobs at residential homes. I would post them now and again on Instagram with a small caption about indoor air quality management. Wouldn’t you know, that gained traction? Today, I have over a hundred thousand followers tune in to watch my regular heating and cooling repair jobs. I could almost quit my day job, but then I would lose my air quality control niche.
