My brother had neglected his furnace all Spring and summer time last year and then he ended up with a bad surprise when they went to wash it up before the fall.
When the weather started cooling off, he and his spouse went down to the furnace room in the basement to do a little cleaning.
They were just planning on cleaning up the exterior of the furnace and wiping down the outside of it but then when they went into the furnace room, they started to smell a different smell. His spouse started looking around and he opened up the casing on the outside of the furnace and that’s when he saw that there was a rats’ nest inside of the furnace! What a horrible mess it was. My brother said that he was almost sick when they were cleaning it out and he made his spouse do most of it. I told his that it could have been worse. At least they found the rats’ nest in the furnace before they turned the furnace on for the winter! I told his that there would have been a much bigger issue for them to deal with if they ended up having roasted rats in their furnace at the start of the winter. When I said that, he said that he was going to throw up just thinking about it. It makes myself and others laugh whenever he talks about it. I guarantee that from now on, he is going to be making sure that they check in on their furnace idea throughout the Spring and the summer time even when they aren’t using it.
