Getting a new roof is giving me a headache

The construction on our new roof is taking forever.

The roofing company is up on top of our house all day long hammering away and pouring smelly tar. And this is the third day that they have been doing this. The stink is pretty bad and I am getting a headache. I don’t know if the headache is because of the smell or because of the noise. I’ve tried turning the TV up and closing all of the windows but I can still hear and smell the roof installation. I’m tempted to go and aks the foreman to try and keep the noise down but I know that would be stupid. I have to let the roofers do their job if I want a new roof. So I am just sitting in my living room and jumping everytime I hear a hammer fall. At least I know that the work will be done today. The foreman promised me as much. That means that we will have a new roof over our head by tonight. Then we won’t have to worry about the tropical storm hitting this weekend. Besides, we have needed a new roof for awhile now. I am tired of catching leaks in my good pans. After the roofers are done, I will have to get some painters out here to fix up the ceiling. I bet that will be smelly and noisy too. I guess I’ll worry about that on another day though. I just still have to get through the noise and smell of today.

I am a business consultant

I am a freelance business consultant, and I am so glad that I decided to be a business consultant. I am pretty sure that I have one of the coolest jobs in the world. Now, I am not a business consultant for large corporations. Although it would be cool to be a business consultant for one of these corporations, I prefer to be a small business consultant. Small businesses are the future of our company. I fully support small businesses, and I believe that they personify the American dream. Since small businesses are at a huge disadvantage to large corporations, it is my passion to provide affordable business consulting for these smaller businesses to give them an edge. The topics that I discuss while doing business consulting mainly focus on two major areas. I focus on business organization and marketing strategies. One of the most important parts of your business is the organization of your business. As a business consultant, I have seen many businesses that have the potential of being successful, but since these companies are disorganized, they are never able to reach their full potential. As a business consultant, I work with the leaders of the company to help amend these problems. Also, my business consulting focuses on marketing strategies. Major corporations have a huge edge in marketing, which is why small businesses have to focus on local advertising. Unless a company can learn how to market their product, they will never go anywhere. I would be willing to offer my services as a business consultant to any small business!

I impulse-purchased an air conditioner

I can’t believe that I just purchased that window air conditioner.

I have no idea who I am going to be able to afford to do anything now that I purchased that window air conditioner. I should have waited to purchase the window air conditioner, but the deal was so good that I decided to throw caution to the wind and purchase the air conditioner anyway. I have been living in my apartment without an air conditioner. The apartment didn’t come with an air conditioner, but that didn’t really surprise me because I didn’t expect the apartment to have an air conditioner anyway. I had to move into a cheap apartment, and cheap apartments typically don’t have a central air conditioner. Since I was strapped for money, I couldn’t purchase a window air conditioner for my apartment immediately. If I wanted to be able to pay all of my bills, I would have to save up my money slowly. There was a chance that I could purchase the air conditioner halfway through the summer, but the chances were high that I was going to have to wait until next year to have an air conditioner. However, I saw a great deal at the store. The price of the window air conditioner was higher than I wanted to pay even if I saved up the money, but the air conditioner was discounted in price. Normally, it would have been twice the price for the air conditioner, but the store was going out of business, so they wanted to sell the air conditioner for a cheap price. I knew that I shouldn’t have, but I purchased the air conditioner anyway. I am glad for the air conditioner, but I know that it is going to make finances complicated.

I almost bought a new furnace

I almost bought a new furnace, but I am so glad that I eventually decided not to buy a new furnace.

The reason that I wanted a new furnace was that my old furnace was terrible.

I honestly never expected to own a furnace that was as bad as the furnace that I had before. The furnace was constantly breaking down, and it was causing me a lot of frustration. I was strapped for cash when the furnace stopped working the first time. Still, during the winter, you cannot live without a furnace, so there was no way that I was going to be able to wait to get my furnace fixed. I had to call an HVAC technician, and my family struggled financially for the next few weeks while we figured out how we were going to be able to afford anything else after paying for the furnace. Soon afterward, we realized that this furnace malfunction was not going to be an isolated incident. The furnace was going to continue to malfunction, and it was costing us a lot of money. I was so thankful when the winter finally ended and when we could turn the furnace off. I knew that the best time to buy a furnace would be during the spring, and when I finally saw the prices drop, I almost purchased a furnace. However, my wife convinced me to wait. The price drop wasn’t significant because we have a good HVAC company, and we wouldn’t have to go into debt for a furnace if we saved throughout the summer. I was so glad that I did. Someone purchased a new furnace for us during the fall right before we needed one, and I was shocked. I couldn’t believe our luck!

I want a new furnace

I really want to purchase a new furnace.

Technically, I don’t need a new furnace now, but I definitely want a new furnace now.

I have an older furnace in my house, and I am getting tired of the old furnace. It seems like my furnace is constantly in need of some repair. Every year, the HVAC technician comes to my house to inspect my furnace, and he always has a list of repairs that my furnace is going to need. Still, even though he fixes my furnace every fall, I have problems with my furnace during the winter. It could be a lot worse, but my furnace could also be a lot better. I just know that the furnace is going to end up costing me a lot more money in the long run. When I talked to my HVAC technician about it, he told me that it is still worth the money to keep the furnace. However, I am not sure that it is worth the hassle to keep the furnace just so that I can save a few extra dollars. That is why I am really tempted to buy a new furnace. If I bought a new furnace, then I wouldn’t have to worry about all of the hassles of dealing with the repairs of the furnace that I have now. Still, in the long run, I know that it will be better to just let my old furnace die before I decide to get a new furnace. Obviously, the HVAC technician knows a lot more than I do. I just hope that my old furnace stops working soon so that I have a great reason for why I need to purchase the newer furnace.

I only use my air conditioner at night

I know that people rely on their air conditioner a lot, but I honestly only rely on my air conditioner at night.

I hardly ever use my air conditioner during the day.

I actually like the warmer temperatures, but that is not the main reason that I choose not to use the air conditioner during the day. The only reason that I don’t use the air conditioner during the day is due to the fact that I need to save money. I am living on a very tight budget. If I want to make sure that I am not going into debt during even the most minor emergency, then I have to find a way to cut costs. One of the ways that I have learned to save money is to not use a central air conditioner. I have a central air conditioner, but I don’t turn it on. I know that it can get hot in my house during the day, but by using the fan, I can be decently comfortable. Sure, it isn’t the best way to live, but I cannot afford to use my central air conditioner all of the time, so it really isn’t a hard choice anyway. I wouldn’t use the air conditioner at night either if it were possible. However, ever since I have been a kid, I have had trouble sleeping without the air conditioner. I will toss and turn all night without the air conditioner. I have found that by using an air conditioner and a weighted blanket, I sleep well. If I sleep well, then I can work hard and earn money. By using my air conditioner at night, I am a lot more productive during the day, and that is important.

Heaters and Coolers

Sandy Koufax was one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Al Campanis, then a scout and later an executive in MLB, witnessed a tryout of the young pitcher.

Campanis later said about what he witnessed, “There are two times in my life the hair on my arms has stood up: The first time I saw the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the second time when I saw Sandy Koufax throw a fastball.” Injuries and an arthritic arm forced Koufax to retire at the age of 30 after a 12-year career. In a way, the story about Sandy Koufax is like that of a heating and cooling system that is overworked and under-maintained and thus breaks down early. Koufax relied on a fastball, known in baseball as a “heater.” He also threw a devastating curveball that “cooled off” many batters. The stress of those pitches along with the “science” of pitching and the state of arm care in the 1950s and 1960s were likely factors in his early retirement. On the other end of the pitching spectrum are the knuckleballers. They rarely achieve greatness like Koufax but their careers last much longer because the relatively slow pitch causes little or no stress on the arm. Knuckleball pitchers often pitch into their 40s. Pitchers who master the pitch that flutters in a gentle breeze are like a well maintained and gently used HVAC system that yields years of comfort. Koufax has a plaque in the Baseball Hall of Fame. If there was an HVAC Hall of Fame, the walls would be full of plaques honoring the “knuckleball” types of heating and cooling units.

Warranted or Not?

Merriam-Webster lists three definitions of the word “warranty” but in my opinion, the best one is this: A usually written guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the maker’s responsibility for the repair or replacement of defective parts.

Seems rather clear to me.

I think most people will agree that big-ticket items like cars and items with a lot of moving parts need to come with a good warranty. With new cars, it is easy to drive to the dealer or an approved mechanic to comply with the conditions of the warranty, and there will probably be a helpful person to help you keep the paperwork in order. With a central HVAC system, the technician charged with keeping your heating and cooling system in compliance must come to your house and will be focused on your system, not the fine print on the paperwork. There are a few things that homeowners must do to avoid warranty problems. The first is to go online and register the warranty within the time window allowed. If you are not good on the computer, ask a 10-year-old to help you or mail the form in using snail-mail. Next, stick to the annual or bi-annual maintenance schedule because no warranty will cover a poorly maintained HVAC system. If you are a DIYer, think very hard before taking your tools and cheap replacement parts to make even a simple repair. It could void the warranty. DIYers should never attempt an installation unless they are certified as installers. The final tip seems the easiest but is often the most difficult and that is to document every service call and keep the records to prove you are in compliance with your HVAC warranty.

It Pays to Advertise

An effective advertising campaign is pure gold for any business and that is why billions of dollars are spent every year on every imaginable product. A 30-second ad during the Super Bowl will cost over 5 million dollars promoting items like beer, snacks, soft drinks, fast food, and electronics. My question to those who pay for such things is: Why are you throwing so much money advertising products that everybody wants? I will still drink beer even though I have no chance of living the lifestyle of the people they show in the ads. I don’t need any funny commercial to tell me I enjoy a piping hot pizza delivered to my door and I know that the real counter person at any fast food establishment does not care if “I’m Lovin’ It,” or not. I just want my burger, fries, and sugar-laden soft drink. I will also bet that admen are getting well paid to crank out ads for these easy sales. My sympathies are with the admen who must think up clever ads for dull and unexciting products like HVAC and related products. It is easy to show a room full of attractive young people dressed to “the nines” while they sip on a brand of cola, but that concept does not work with HVAC filters. I’ll bet that the tuxedo clad “world’s most interesting man” who pitches one brand of beer could not convince anyone to buy the latest smart central HVAC unit. The creators of ads for HVAC are tasked with devising clever ways to convey the simple message that everyone needs a well-functioning heating and cooling system to stay comfortable all year round and not just at Super Bowl time.

The Three Little Pigs

My theory is that a fire broke out and the backdraft was the wind that destroyed both structures

The Three Little Pigs is a nursery rhyme and fable about a trio of young porcines who venture into a nondescript place described as “the woods” where each of them builds a house. Their antagonist is a predatory canine creature described as “big and bad”. Unfortunately, two of the little pigs choose substandard construction material. Their straw and stick homes are preyed upon by the wolf who is also blessed with an unusual respiratory enhancement allowing him to “blow your house down” with a series of “huffs and puffs”. The third house, made with bricks, survives the wind event and this eventually leads to the wolf’s demise. I don’t think there was ever a “big, bad wolf”. One theory is that he is a metaphor for a tornado or a named tropical storm with the obvious lesson to not use straw or sticks as building materials. I offer an alternate theory as to the wolf allegory and that is HVAC. The little pig that chose to build with sticks did not anticipate the difficulty of mounting even a small window AC unit much less installing a full central HVAC system in a flimsy structure. If the other pig used straw bales, he would increase the house’s strength and have good insulation, but the fire hazard would make any HVAC installation quite improbable. My theory is that a fire broke out and the backdraft was the wind that destroyed both structures. Bricks are fire-resistant and strong enough to support any heating and cooling system so they would make a cozy abode for the third little pig. I believe he came to an understanding with the wolf, who was probably quite charming, and they lived happily ever after.
