One of the reasons I was so ecstatic when I got my very first apartment was how much autonomy I was going to have while living alone.
I grew up in a family of 6 with 3 other sisters and I just didn’t get quite that much privacy.
I shared a room with at least one sister for the entire time I lived with our parents. I sure was ecstatic to go off to college. However, then I ended up sharing a room with 3 other roommates! Again, besides the privacy thing, there was another constant annoyance I found at home and at school. I never had control of the temperature control no matter what! My parents regularly set too the A/C too high, even when it was the hottest summer morning! And then I found that being in college was no better. My roommates always thought it was too cold in there. With my new apartment, though, I had complete access to the temperature control! It was a dream come true. I could now crank up the air-conditioning component to as high as I wanted it, and I definitely fully intend to keep the air conditioner serviced as well as possible, as it’s our responsibility as the renter to do so. I have no problem with this; it’s a genuinely powerful air conditioner unit. I guess that as long as I live alone, however long is, I will love to have free reign over the temperature control. I just pray that any roommate or significant other that I end up living with someday has similar ideas when it comes to temperature!
