Decision 2020 is Also About HVAC

I am aware of the fact that 2020 is just right around the corner. And the time is drawing nigh to make a crucial decision. Actually, I’m not talking about the presidential election. I’m talking about the fact that come January 1, 2020 the production of R 22 refrigerant will be illegal in the United States. This type of refrigerant used in the heating and cooling industry has been proven to be very detrimental to the ozone layer. These new regulations will affect a great many people I would imagine. If they want to keep an HVAC unit that still utilizes this type of refrigerant, they will have to pay through the nose to get it. Turns out, I’m one of the great many. The HVAC unit I have still uses R 22. It has been the only HVAC unit in this house. And, it still gets the job done. I was careful to always have the heating and cooling unit maintained by a professional HVAC technician all these years. I never missed a seasonal tune up. I guess that’s proof that preventive maintenance actually works! Yet, I still find myself in a bit of a quandry. The HVAC still works albeit not as efficiently as I would like. But, I really don’t want to get in a position where I have to locate R 22 for an out of date HVAC system. I turned to the HVAC professional who I have dealt with for over 20 years. They have laid out several options and their payment programs. They are great people to work with. Now, it just comes down to making a pretty crucial decision.
