Ductless heat pump ownership

Since I moved out to this area, I’ve been really pleased with the mild temperature throughout the year.

I always lived in an area with extreme summers and winters, but this type of mild climate is great! One of the best things about it is that I’ve saved a lot of money on both clothes and my monthly heating and cooling bill. One of the things that I learned was that, here in the mild portion of the country, there are different HVAC products used in people’s homes. Folks out here use heat pumps instead of the traditional air conditioners and furnaces that I’m used to. In case you’re wondering, a heat pump is essentially an air conditioner that does both heating and cooling. Air conditioners pump warm air out of the house while heat pumps can pump warm air either in or out of the house. I was excited about the idea of having one unit for heating and cooling. I went one step further. When I spoke with my HVAC provider, they told me about ductless heat pumps. I was doubly excited by the prospect of one unit for heating and cooling that didn’t have ductwork to worry about cleaning or maintaining. I have to say, this is the most convenient form of HVAC that I have ever encountered. The only issue is that heat pumps have a shorter lifespan than the typical air conditioner and furnace setup. Of course, the heat pump is doing twice the work. Even with the shorter lifespan, the heat pump is a much more affordable heating and cooling solution.
