It was kind of funny when my brother came over for dinner with his wife.
- He started asking me about my heating system.
He asked if I had the same old oil furnace that I’ve had ever since buying the house. I shrugged and told him I did have the same oil furnace and he said I needed to update that thing. I honestly didn’t think that it was necessary because the oil furnace worked fine. My brother was saying how my fueling costs must be outrageous, and I had to admit that he was right, but we were careful about the temperature control settings and always made sure to winterize the house effectively. On top of that, we always made sure to get regular HVAC system maintenance, so our oil furnace was in reasonable shape for its age. Then he started telling me about a modern type of heating system called a dual fuel system. He explained that it was basically a ductless mini split system combined with a furnace, whether it be gas, electric, or oil. He told me how the ductless heating system will work until the temperatures fall under 40 degrees fahrenheit and that’s when the furnace will kick on. He was saying how these systems have variable speed technology making them extremely energy efficient. I thought about it with my wife and then we both called the HVAC company to ask about dual fuel systems. Before we knew it, we were having one installed and it was an excellent choice. Now our energy bills are so cheap, we can’t even believe it!
