Changing my lifestyle to make fitness a priority

I recently started losing weight.

I have needed to make my health and fitness a priority.

I was struggling with my weight before COVID forced lifestyle changes. After that, I became especially sedentary. I was eating a lot of foods high in calories and carbohydrates. I was snacking throughout the day. Working from home, I had easy access to all sorts of unhealthy treats. I noticed that I’d put on a few pounds. I also started to deal with various aches and pains. My shoulders, back and hips ached at the end of the day. I was having some trouble sleeping. I had very little energy and started to feel a bit depressed. I know that it was time to turn my life around. I realized I needed to focus on my health and make time for it. The first thing I did was change my diet. I was drinking way too much soda throughout the day. I emptied my cupboards of all the unhealthy stuff and went grocery shopping. I bought a bunch of vegetables, fruits, fish and bottled water. I started paying attention to quantities and quality of food. I added a lot of water to my daily routine. This was a huge improvement for my energy levels. I also focused on exercise. It was a slow start. The first day, I headed out for a run and made it maybe a quarter of a mile before I needed to slow down to a walk. But I walked for three miles. I kept at it and gradually built my stamina. I can now go for an eight mile run without feeling sore at the end of it. I ride my bike to the grocery store. I have lost weight, gained strength and feel so much better about myself. I will never go back to my old ways.
