I used to think that the worst thing about winter was that it would dark so quickly. Somehow, I end up getting my timing all off skelter. During the summer, my husband doesn’t get his dinner until about eight in the evening. I just lose all track of time. In the winter, I tend to start feeding him around five in the afternoon. It just seems to be right. I can’t even work properly when it gets dark so early. I feel like I have just started working, and I should be quitting. Now that I am older, it isn’t just that it is getting dark so much earlier, but I can’t stand the cold. I love the changing season and I always welcome winter, but it doesn’t matter where I set the thermostat, I just can’t seem to get warm. I have a space heater in my office, so I can always have it warmer than the rest of the house. I wonder if it isn’t just because I am so sedate when I am working. I’m not able to keep my blood circulating fast enough to create heat for myself. My husband can’t understand why I am cold all the time, but then I put my hands on his face. I love the space heater he bought me. It is a small oil filled heater that works on electric and it keeps me warm and cozy when I am working. He told me that if I was a good girl, he would buy me a ductless mini split for my office, Christmas. I would have heating and air conditioning with a ductless mini split. I would also have my own remote. In the winter, I wouldn’t even have to get up to adjust the thermostat.
My husband isn’t any good when it comes to fixing things in the house. I tend to just take care of the situation and then I tell him how much it cost. When we moved into our home, there was a central air conditioning system already in place. The old owner told us that it had never worked properly and they had only used it for a couple months before they went back to using the window air conditioning. I never thought about it again, and my husband and I just continued using window air conditioners just like the old owners. I often asked him if he wanted to just get rid of the outside AC unit, and he kept telling me he would take it to the recycling center when he got time. That was ten years ago. When my window air conditioner broke, I didn’t even bother to tell my husband. I called the HVAC company and they sent someone out to the house. He said that he couldn’t fix the window unit I was currently using, but he may have some other information for me. We already had a central air conditioning unit, but it hadn’t worked since we moved into the house. He went outside and he looked it over. He did some fiddling with the AC components and I saw him change the air filter. He then went to his truck and brought what looked like a brush back to the AC unit. Within an hour, he had the central AC running. It didn’t cost me much more than if I had just bought a new AC unit and I had perfect air conditioning.
Have you ever wondered how much you have to keep up with a HVAC unit? Between filters, ducting, and yearly check-ups for debris and or leaks. It takes a lot of time and depending on the kind you get, expensive. Don’t get it confused though, if you think something is wrong with the unit before a year or a few weeks you may want to call it in as it can cost even more than what the unit is worth to begin with. Other ones that are smaller, a window unit for instance, you may want to clean it yourself and keep up with filter changes. Usually window units don’t get maintenance check-ups because they are pretty easy to keep up with. You may or may not call them in order to get a certain part if you choose to replace it. There are other kind that plug in. Most of the time those are portable heaters. It gets hotter than colder in some environments based on location as well. You can’t forget about the big to small fans, those just need to be dusted out every so often. Those kind of HVAC devices uses a motor instead of ducts, outside air or coils. It simply pushes air out by a propeller. So dust is your biggest enemy with these devices. This little bit I’ve informed you about is the surface of all the knowledge you might want to know when getting involved with purchasing a cooling and heating device.
I was running late for school. Already a bad start to a new week. It was our final week of high school and I had a lot of important end of the year exams and fees to pay for college. Running late can really put me on a stand still for the summer classes I wanted to partake it. It was just starting to warm up from the not so cold winter. I gathered my school bookbag, breakfast and car keys. I made sure to lock the door behind me. Once I got to the car the first thing I do after turning it on is blast the A/C. Sometimes it will take my car a few moments for it to become cold. Other times it gets freezing in seconds. I’m not quite sure what’s going on with it. I need to take it into a mechanic to see if they can give me a diagnosis and a solution. Living in Florida you must have A/C. It is so important. More so with overheating and for children in the car. I can’t imagine driving in Florida in the middle of summer for no type of cooling system. I’m determined to get this unit checked out asap. I have myself and two little boys that depend on our family car and HVAC unit.
Life insurance can be helpful in managing taxes. If you’ve accumulated enough wealth that you expect your estate to be taxed at either the state or federal level, using life insurance in a trust is beneficial. At the present time, you can pass $11.18 million to your heirs without paying any federal estate tax. Life insurance allows families to provide funding to cover estate taxes and provides other opportunities to protect wealth. An irrevocable life insurance trust, known as an ILIT, is an advanced planning technique, and a great way to provide a source of ready cash. Available funds can be used to pay estate taxes on a property or business, and allows wealth to transfer to your heirs outside your estate. Without this source of funds, heirs may be forced to sell off real estate, stocks, family jewelry or a family business, simply to raise sufficient cash to cover estate costs. Bad timing, such as a declining stock market or depressed real estate values could lead to the liquidation of assets at a low value. A major advantage of an irrevocable life insurance trust is that the assets included in the trust are not considered part of your estate for federal/estate tax purposes. The heirs aren’t expected to pay estate or inheritance taxes on the life insurance death benefits that are paid. While an irrevocable life insurance trust provides numerous tax advantages, it is a complex legal arrangement. Setting up an ILIT requires professional assistance, and there’s costs involved with creating and maintaining the trust. Once the trust is set up, you can’t change it, withdraw any of the assets or even terminate it.
A little over a year ago, my husband Frank and I retired and moved south. We were anxious to escape the snow and cold, and avoid the cost of running the furnace. We bought a little house near the water and were eager to fix it up. Since we moved during milder weather, we weren’t concerned with the heat or humidity. Frank and I concentrated on renovating our new home. We spent a great deal of time, effort and money on exterior landscaping and indoor aesthetics. Within a couple of months, the weather started to heat up. We had never experienced such severe heat and humidity. Although we started up the air conditioner, the house remained overheated and sticky. We turned the thermostat way down, but it didn’t make much difference. The air conditioner simply couldn’t keep up with demand. It ran non stop, but provided very little cold air. When Frank and I hired a local HVAC contractor to inspect the system, we were worried. We expected the HVAC technician to recommend replacing the air conditioner. There was definitely not enough money left in our budget for a new cooling system, and we’d be forced to take out a loan. The HVAC contractor carefully inspected the equipment and told us that while it was quite old, it was still in decent shape. He said that it simply hadn’t been serviced in a long time and was clogged with dust, mold, and other debris. The HVAC technician proceeded to carefully clean all components. He tightened electrical connections, replaced some of the belts, changed the filter, charged the refrigerant, and lubricated the motor. Once the service was complete, the air conditioner operated like new again. It now costs us far less to run, and yet the house remains perfectly cool.
There have been a lot of changes since moving out west; I no longer need snow boots, I can swim in a pool year round, and I no longer need to take out window air conditioning units when seasons change. When I lived up north, having to dig out the window air conditioning units was my least favorite chore, of course besides actually putting them into the windows or having to remove them. We had to take them out for the colder months and winter because they would freeze and it would alter their life span. Now being out west, I don’t need window air conditioning units because I have central air. I don’t have to put in my central air, I don’t have to take out my central air, it just stays in and working at all times whenever I need it. This was such an adjustment for me; don’t get me wrong, a good adjustment, but I definitely felt weird at first and was worried the central air wouldn’t work as well as my window air conditioning units – so worried in-fact that I really almost went to purchase a window air conditioning unit just to be safe! I’m very thankful I didn’t though because the central air is working marvelously for me! Buy the window air conditioning unit would have just been a waste of time and money. I can’t imagine having to lug that heavy window unit around the house with me several times each season change just to stay cool for a handful of months ever again.
We had just moved to a new apartment across the country from where we are from and where all of our family lives. We didn’t know a whole lot about central air units because where we were from, houses did not have them. One night we were doing laundry and all of a sudden our floors were soaked, and the bottom half of the wall was soaked. Well of course we thought the washing machine had overflowed, but the washing machine itself wasn’t the least bit wet. So, since we were so stumped on what the issue could have been, we called our maintenance guy for our complex and he came over right away – it turns out, our air conditioning unit was set up right above our washing machine in the attic and our safety switch failed and the drip pan overflowed! What kind of luck is that? The maintenance guy had to install a new safety switch in hopes that it would never overflow again because it made such a mess. Had we been in our own house and that happened, we would have never known it could have been the air conditioning unit because we didn’t even think about that being a potential issue since we weren’t used to having those where we are from. Thank goodness our maintenance guy knew where the air conditioning unit was located too because that was a real lifesaver for us and things could’ve gotten so much worse, and so much more costly, had we not called him, or if had to of called an HVAC specialist.
You know, I have consistently felt prefer FAll was the best season of the year. I can remember way back to being a little kid, when everyone would ask such easy questions as “what’s your number one season?” plus our response was consistently odd than the other teenagers. They, on repeat, would consistently answer that the best season was summer time time, because they didn’t have to go to college plus got to spend time at the beach, going on trips, plus enjoying TV. Me, on the other hand, I thought that Fall was the best time of the year. I didn’t really prefer the heat plus humidity of summer, in fact it often made me sick as a child because I was predisposed to nasty migraines. Instead, I liked the cool, crisp fall air. I enjoyed the decreasing colors of the trees. I adored the smell of dried leaves plus the feeling of cold afternoons before the sunlight came out. The only thing I didn’t prefer entirely much about fall was how strenuous it could be to regulate your own personal temperature properly with the decreasing air hot plus cold temperatures; Like I said, the afternoons are consistently brisk plus shockingly crisp feeling, so you are tempted to layer on tons of fall clothing to protect yourself. The extra warmth feels so cozy plus welcoming… at first, but however, in the fall, the sunlight plays a cruel trick around 11am when it suddenly starts pumping tons of heat down to the earth. Suddenly the outdoor air temperature makes leaps plus bounds, decreasing extremely plus making your overheated fall outfit completely unnecessary. After you shed about 5 layers of sizzling clothing the day can be saved, but don’t leave your jacket at home; the air temperature will plummet again around 6pm plus you’ll be begging for that overheated coat back.
