Air quality at the gym is a problem for my health

As part of my regular daily routine, I wake up in the morning and head straight for the gym.

  • I devote an hour to working out, using a selection of different exercise equipment.

I then shower and get prepared for work. After my day at the office, I return back home to relax for a little while and then go to bed. My workouts early in the morning are a great way to make me more productive. I’m always in a better mood, and I feel better about myself. The workouts result in a higher level of energy. I get some physical exertion before sitting sedentary at a desk for the remainder of the day. My strenuous workout program keeps me in good physical shape. I stay healthy. Unfortunately, in the beginning of June, I began having some health issues. I dealt with congestion, sore throat, headache and itchy eyes. I was constantly sneezing, coughing and was exhausted all day. Assuming I had caught some type of flu, I tried taking vitamins, drinking fruit juice and heading to bed earlier. Nothing made a difference. After a couple of weeks, my symptoms became worse. I finally went to see a doctor and was given a prescription. I’d begin to feel better over the weekends and feel really sick again during the week. I finally realized that I was sneezing and coughing every time I was at the gym. My symptoms had shown up right around the time the weather turned warmer. I became suspicious of the air quality at the gym and thought it might be the dirty air conditioner. I brought up my problems to the manager of the gym. She arranged for professional cleaning and service for the cooling systems. I immediately felt better and no longer suffered from any symptoms.
