Left business school

5 years ago when I graduated high school I had no idea what I was doing.

I knew that I had to get some sort of college degree, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

That’s when the folks around me encouraged me to get a general business degree so that I could figure out my exact direction later down the road. I took their advice to heart and I began attending community college to get my basic business degree. It wasn’t long, however, before I dropped out and started on a different path… In the heating and cooling industry. You see, as I was taking my classes I was regularly hearing the professor talk next door. It seems to be some kind of mechanical repair service and technology course, and all of the students who were enrolled looked extremely enthusiastic about what they were learning. One day, I snuck into the class and realized that it was a certified HVAC technician course. This class was part of the licensed heating, cooling, and ventilation program which was renowned at my community college. I decided to audit one of the courses and within 5 minutes of learning about advanced cooling systems and air quality control management, I knew that I was in the wrong field. I quickly dropped out of my business curriculum and applied to the heating and cooling program offered at my college. Today, I’m confident that I made the right choice by entering the HVAC technician field. Rather than worrying about the heartless intricacies of business, I worry about the intricacies of air quality control management. I get to help my neighbors with their residential HVAC needs every single day, and I know that’s my business.
