Looking into replacing my gas furnace

My house will be more comfortable and energy efficient

My furnace is well over twenty years old. Although it’s still operational, I think it’s time to replace it. Over the last five years, I’ve noticed a steady decline in performance. Even when the heating system was brand new, it only achieved an 80% AFUE rating. My heating bills have continued to grow more expensive every month. This proves that the efficiency is decreasing, creating a bigger impact on the environment and my budget. There are now furnaces on the current market that promise a 98% AFUE rating. Despite the cost of purchase and installation, I am convinced I’d save enough money on my heating bills to recover the investment. I’m also a bit worried about health threats due to contaminated indoor air quality. There’s definitely more dust blowing out of the vents and circulating around the house. I need to vacuum, dust and clean a lot more often. While the furnace has proven quite reliable, it’s most likely that it will fail when it’s working the hardest. Odds are that it will malfunction in the middle of the winter, when the temperature is well below freezing. I don’t want to be left without heat during a blizzard. I’d much rather schedule the installation over the summer, when it won’t disrupt everyday life. This would give me time to research different makes and models and make smart choices. Although I’m dreading the project, I know that it’s necessary and will be beneficial in the end. My house will be more comfortable and energy efficient. I’ll also benefit from the furnace being covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.
