When I planned our move to a lake house in a state up north, one of the changes that was exciting myself and others the most was finally having a fireplace for the first time in our life. Having grown up in the south where you’re more likely to find a screened lanai than a chimney or fireplace, I had never even been inside a home or building before with actual lit wood inside a fireplace or woodstove. I had only images from movies plus tv shows to acquaintance with the experience, not the physical stink or the respiratory effects. My greatest health problem is our asthma; the rest of our body is in fantastic shape, however our lungs have never been at 100% regardless of our environment or habits. Some locales are better than others, especially after I moved out of a moldy house that had been giving myself and others woes for years. But I never stopped to suppose about how this would play out with burning wood in our house. I thought all of it went up our chimney plus wouldn’t affect our lungs. Unfortunately, it’s an older home plus despite respected chimney cleanings done by previous owners, it just doesn’t completely vent out all of the smoke when you have a fire roaring. I was having troubles wheezing plus coughing for weeks before I gave up plus had a current oil furnace installed to get myself and others through the rest of the Winter season. I have already looked into investing in a brand current wood stove plus an updating chimney venting proposal put into locale for the following year. This should help remove some of the residual smoke that lingers in our home plus aggravates our lungs. For now the gas oil furnace I installed should get myself and others through til Springtime.
I designed the interior of the home
I have been a writer for over a decade, and I am only now finally getting a room of my own. A writing room has been something I have always dreamed about. Now that I am landing my first big publishing deal, my husband and I have decided that I am finally ready to take up my own space in the house just for my work. See, between he and I and our adopted son, I definitely need a little more peace and quiet to be my tasks done. Now that I have this publishing contract, my debut novel has become a trilogy. While this is wonderful news, it also means that I now have to get the next two novels out on very exacting deadlines. It can be done, but I’ll need to be able to stay focused to do it. I also needed the perfect desk, and as my husband has found out, I sort of hate everything. I don’t like the big wood desks, nor the tiny secretary desks. When I was about ready to give up, he called a custom made furniture store and booked an appointment. I was worried that my advance wouldn’t cover it, but he assured me it was a gift for all of my hard work and to celebrate this new milestone. But since my husband and I both adore European homes and have purchased a house that is exactly that, we need the furniture in our home to reflect it. Who knew a simple thing like a leather chair could be such a headache? My partner just finished his transition from working in the office to working at home in order to be prepared for our new son. This way, he will be at home with me help me raise him every step of the way. A big part of this was having a home office that was not just a space for him to work, but a private space to have people over to meet in person if need be. We have everything we need but one thing–a set of two leather chairs for clients or coworkers to sit in when they stop by for a meeting. However, finding the right thing for his exacting tastes has been a trial neither of us expected. The leather chairs we find fit into two categories, stuffed and dining room. Either we’re looking at these thing armless chairs with just a leather pad for comfort while eating, or a massive stuffed leather recliner used to curl up in by the TV. In the end, my partner did some digging and found out about custom leather chairs from a local craftsman. This family owned business has been crafting custom build furniture for nearly a century. The listened to the unique needs of my partner and drew up multiple sketches for him to choose from. He was able to feel out the exact leather he wanted, and even find the right type and stain of wood. By the end of next month, he will have the perfect leather chairs to make his home office complete.
